HR Generalist

Urban Engineers, Inc. is seeking an HR Generalist to join the HR team in our Philadelphia office.

As the HR Generalist, you will be the first point of contact for day-to-day HR inquiries, activities, and processes such as end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, policy implementation, and metrics and reporting. Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, this position will provide support and advice related to the full employee lifecycle at Urban with a particular emphasis on talent acquisition.

This role is based in our Philadelphia office, with a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office and one day remote (or full time in the office if preferred).

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the end-to-end recruitment process for all identified business groups, including sourcing, screening, interview facilitation, and onboarding talent.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to define role requirements and develop tailored recruitment strategies.
  • Develop and execute innovative sourcing strategies, including job postings, social media outreach, networking, and leveraging talent pools.
  • Own and coordinate all early career activities including internship, co-ops, and early career programs, as well as leading Urban's career fairs and campus recruiting events.
  • Conduct initial candidate assessments, evaluate technical skills, and ensure cultural alignment.
  • Create offer letters, conduct reference checks, and initiate background screens.
  • Manage onboarding processes ensuring a smooth transition for new hires.
  • Be an advisor to hiring managers by providing market insights, salary benchmarks, and candidate trends.
  • Build and maintain a robust talent pipeline for current and future roles.
  • Execute day-to-day HR transactions in the moment ensuring the timely resolution of all open activities.
  • Conduct internal employment investigations, summarizes evidence, and recommends appropriate action needed, and communicates with relevant leadership.
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations where appropriate.
  • Conduct exit interviews as needed and manage separation feedback. Provide constructive feedback to leaders regarding exit reasons and trends with an eye towards solutioning.
  • Manage offboarding processes ensuring a smooth transition for exiting employees.
  • Maintain compliance with labor laws, company policies, and procedures, keeping up-to-date with changes in employment regulations.
  • Provide support for HR initiatives, including employee engagement, wellness programs, and diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to local, state, and federal agencies as needed.
  • Facilitate workers compensation, unemployment, and employment verification processes.
  • Generate reporting for key HR metrics


What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
  • 3 years of demonstrated end-to-end recruiting experience in the engineering and construction services industries AND 3 years of experience supporting a variety of HR processes as an HR Generalist or similar role.
  • Significant prior experience in position control, posting roles on recruitment sites, sourcing candidates, navigating interviews, creating offer letters, and ensuring a robust onboarding.
  • Proficiency in HRIS including processing HR transactions, data analytics, and reporting. Paycom experience would be helpful but is not required.
  • Ability to set priorities, goals and timelines to achieve maximum productivity. And manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Display a high level of initiative, effort, detail, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Strong ability to work well with various stakeholders, fostering positive relationships and effective collaboration.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional communication and customer service abilities.
  • Solid experience in project management and handling confidential matters with discretion.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • HR certification such as: HRCI/SHRM or related certification is desired.

Pay Rate: $75,000 - $85,000 / year
