Transportation Supervisor

Location : Los Angeles, CA

Job Type : Full-Time

Compensation : $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience

About the Opportunity:

An innovative and fast-growing wholesale distribution company serving thousands of small businesses across Southern California is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to join its dynamic logistics team. The Role:

As a Transportation Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading and developing a team of hourly professionals who are focused on delivering "best in class" results across safety, customer experience, and financial targets. This role will set goals/objectives and ensure accountability for delivering results in our transportation operation. Success will require cross functional coordination and alignment with other stakeholders (warehouse shipping/ receiving, sales, human resources, etc), ensuring decisions are not made in silos. In addition, the Transportation Supervisor will educate and promote proper work behaviors and procedures to maintain a culture of safety in the workplace environment.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in transportation management or logistics
  • Direct experience in Direct Store Distribution (DSD), specifically to convenience stores,  is required.
  • Available to work Monday - Friday and a willingness to work outside of set
  • working hours as needed
  • 3+ years of experience managing and coaching a team
  • Experience with KPI improvement tactics and performance management
  • Broad knowledge of transportation systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a team
  • Results-driven attitude with strong customer orientation
  • Adaptability to new situations and peak operation periods, with a structured approach to problem-solving
  • Advanced user knowledge of enterprise IT systems
  • Familiar with PM based maintenance programs
  • Strong communication, Microsoft office programs, and computer skills
  • Previous delivery experience is a plus
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • 2 or 4-year college degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management or similar major preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in English & Spanish a plus
  • Food & Beverage food delivery experience a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the entire team to optimal performance while fostering a transparent, inclusive, and safe work environment. This includes tracking of key metrics, continuous improvement, coaching through performance issues, and elevating morale.
  • Manage department decisions, employee retention, and employee performance
  • Partner with DOT compliance and safety support groups to ensure company policies, procedures, and programs are followed.
  • Conduct routine observations/audits to ensure that drivers perform proper
  • equipment checks and complete all work assignments in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of Driver Qualifications, driver log accuracy,
  • and execution of the company's drug and alcohol testing protocol
  • Deliver exceptional customer experience through execution of on-time
  • delivery and prompt issue resolution/ follow through.
  • Serve as the transportation subject matter expert for projects when assigned.
  • Manages labor hours and consumable supplies within budget.
  • Review scheduling and routing for location to ensure optimized delivery plan
  • Establish and measure Customer Service Excellence by conducting market visits/audits and customer input
  • Assist in developing the transportation strategy for the organization.
  • Foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement and a LEAN operating culture.
  • Lead incident/injury investigations; seek out and address the root cause of accidents, and near misses
  • Recruit and select properly qualified drivers and oversee training to ensure resources are available to meet daily schedule requirements.
  • Counsel, coach and discipline employees as necessary regarding performance-related issues.
  • Develop and implement Productivity Improvement Projects to improve upon Key Productivity Indicators
  • Manage Transportation-related SAP processes
  • Lead project implementation initiatives for new technology including on-site training and support
