Job Description

The Production Manager oversees all operational aspects of the production department in a refrigerated, GMP environment. This floor-based role involves roughly 80% floor time and 20% office time. Responsibilities include executing the daily production schedule across two shifts, ensuring on-time, in-full delivery, and maintaining safety protocols and quality standards. The manager will staff, train, and coach over 100 employees and around 10 supervisors. The role also involves proactive collaboration with Maintenance, Quality, Planning, Safety, and HR, and taking targeted actions to improve productivity and material yield.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and oversee all daily and weekly production activities, ensuring the on-time, in-full completion of schedules and orders.
  • Monitor production performance hourly, lead pre-shift and shift transition meetings, and ensure effective communication across shifts.
  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all production equipment, enforcing GMPs and food safety regulations, while providing floor leadership, coaching, and discipline.
  • Ensure all production employees are properly trained in their roles, with a focus on safety protocols and operational best practices.
  • Manage staffing effectively, including scheduling, rotation, overtime control, vacation approvals, and coverage planning.
  • Collaborate with Planning to align on production schedules, order fulfillment, and material requirements.
  • Ensure the use of optimized portioning programs and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as OEE, sharing daily results with the production team.
  • Drive improvements in material yield and overall productivity.
  • Promote plant cleanliness, shop floor organization, and audit readiness at all times.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly performance presentations in management meetings.
  • Support sustainability goals by reducing water and electricity use and ensuring proper waste handling.
  • Conduct facility tours and audits, maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant production environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the food manufacturing industry (seafood experience highly preferred).
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to enforce protocols, instill discipline, and maintain a positive, respectful work environment that supports employee retention.
  • Must be able to be on feet and active in the production area for 6–8 hours per day.
  • Flexible schedule availability required, including ability to be present on early and late shifts and weekends, as needed for operations.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a changing operational environment and lead teams through change.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of using data to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities.
  • Proficient math skills to perform quick and accurate calculations related to cost, material yield, labor productivity, and capacity.
  • Must work with a strong sense of urgency and focus on efficiency.
  • Able to both receive and deliver constructive feedback effectively.
  • Intermediate proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management systems, bar coding and item management.
  • Intermediate Excel skills required.

Education

  • Knowledge in HACCP and GMP required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Business and/or Engineering required.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish strongly desired.
